R.I.P. Run Wrake (1965 - 2012)

I was deeply saddened this morning to hear of the passing of animator, artist and teacher Run Wrake. His wife posted this today on his Facebook page:

It is with incredible sadness that I have to let you know that our darling Run passed away very suddenly at 5am on Sunday morning as an end result of his cancer. He had spent a beautiful Saturday with his two children Florence and Joe, his sister Fiona and myself. We left him at 7pm doing what he loved best- drawing and animating with peg bar and paper. I was with him for his last moments. We love you Run. Lisa Wrake.

My deepest sympathies to his loved ones.

He was brilliant and inspiring, and his tremendous talent and originality will be missed.

I'll post more of his work tomorrow.

I've already posted these, but watch them again with me.

Mysteries of Vernacular: Pants, Jessica Oreck, 2012

In its final form, Mysteries of Vernacular will contain 26 etymological installments, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each episode takes more than 80 hours to create between the research, construction of the book, and animation. If you find yourself charmed, please consider making a donation.

Of course, we here at YOUR DAILY CARTOON have ...feelings about pants.
